Shadows Choice: Sonadow

                                                      Chapter 1

It was a nice sunny day in the summer… quiet and peaceful, the water

fountains flowing, the little birds chirping, and young children laughing and playing

in the fields… Oh yes, just the kind of day anyone could ask for. Nothing to worry

about what so ever... But of course it was not to last. The sky turned gray, dark

clouds began to gather together, and rain began to fall. Children's laughter faded,

and the birds sang no more.

It was just a little shower that would soon pass… but wait! Who is that

strange figure coming through the fog? He comes out of the fog at the speed of

light, and behind him are two police cars with their sirens on. Who is it that they

are chasing?

"ATTENTION SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG! THIS IS THE POLICE! PULL OVER

IMMEDIATELY!", shouted one of the police men in the vehicle with their bullhorn.

Oh, of course! Who else could it be! The hedgehog with fur as black as the

night sky, and rid stripes on the tips of his quills, Shadow the hedgehog. What has

he gotten himself into this time?

"SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG!", yelled one of the police men with the bullhorn,

"RETURN THE CHAOS EMERALD THIS INSTANT! OR WE'LL HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK BY

FORCE!", Shadow didn't look back, he wouldn't stop running, not even for a

second.

In his left hand he holds a green chaos emerald, which he stole from the

national museum. He began to run faster and faster till he disappeared into the fog

once more. The police were beginning to lose sight of him and began to call in for

more troops to search for the black hedgehog. Shadow runs into an alley to hide

from the police, but he was then spotted by a police officer, he ran before the

police man would shout out to the other officers. He then finds himself in another

alley and knew that he wouldn't be able to hide there for long.

"Hmph.", Shadow said to himself, "Pathetic humans. They're such a waste of

time to deal with.", he looks to his left, and then to the right, no sign of any of the

police yet. But then he sees a store across the street, a library, a good and quiet

place to hide, no one would ever expect to find him there. He looks to see if the

cost was clear once more, he ducks for cover as a police car drives pass the alley.

When the police disappeared into the fog, Shadow  runs quickly across the street,

opens the door to the library, and hides himself in a maze of book cases.

Shadow began to venture through the maze of books, there were so many

that the walk in the maze seemed endless. Suddenly Shadow finds a small table in

a corner between the book cases. On that table was a book left opened instead of

being where it should belong. Shadow's ears began to perk' up when he heard

footsteps coming his way. He quickly grabbed the book and hid his face inside the

book, as if he were trying to read. A librarian suddenly comes in, tall and gangly,

eyes bright green and hair that only touched her shoulders, that are as brown as

wood. She wore glasses that she kept struggling to put them back in their place

and was holding a pile of books in her hands trying not to fall. She had a list in her

hand that told her where the books had to go back. She tried not to fall as she

looked at the list and walk at the same time, but failed as she tripped herself in

front of Shadow, and dropped all the books.

"Oww!", cried the librarian, "Oh man, I'm such a klutz.", she said in a whisper.

In a quick second Shadow picked up the books and put them in pile for the librarian

before she looked up to pick up the books herself. Shadow hid his face behind the

book again to make it look as if he didn't do anything at all.

"Huh?", the librarian said very confused, "But who- when did- I thought-?"

she looks to her right and then to her left and sees someone reading a bible

leaning against a bookcase, "Umm….", she said very shy, "Did you pick those

up for me?".

Shadow trying to keep himself hidden and not blow his cover looked down at

the girl and looked back at the book pretending to continue reading, and to give a

response, just shrugged his shoulders.

"Oh…" she said with a little embarrassment, "Well… um thank

you… I guess..", she picks up the books and her list and starts to walk away,

"Bye.", she said kindly. Shadow saw her walk away and looked back into the book.

"Hmph," he said to himself, "you humans are so weak.", and after his remark

he then finds a quote in the book that caught his eye….

"I prayed, and prudence was given me; I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came

to me. I preferred her to scepter and throne, and deemed riches nothing in

comparison with her, nor did I liken any priceless gem to her; because all gold, in

view of her, is a little sand, and before her, silver is to be accounted mire. Beyond

health and comeliness I loved her, and I chose to have her rather than the light,

because the splendor of her never yields to sleep. Yet all good things together

came to me in her company, and countless riches at her hands." (Wisdom 7:7-11)

Shadow read the quote over and over till his eyes were sore. He felt weird inside

and was confused on what the quote was saying. He then looked at the front of

the book cover and his eyes went wide open. The cover of the book said The Bible.

He slapped the book shut and threw it on the table very frustrated.

"Why the hell am I reading the bible!?", he yelled, "Ridiculous.", as he walked away

he then hears the librarian looking back at him.

       "SHhhh!", she said trying to not make a lot noise, "Sir please!", she yelled in a

whispering voice, "this is a library, so please be quiet!", she then winks at him

letting him know that she won't rat him out. Shadows eyes widen for a second but

then nods to the girl, he then walks away to find a way out of the library….

At the end of the day the rain has finally passed and the white fog had finally

disappeared. Shadow sits in a tree on a hill deep in the city's park, drops of rain

sat on the leaves and then some fell, and one drop of water fell on Shadow.

"Ah-!", he said getting ready to sneeze, "AHCHOO!", he covers his mouth and

looks to see if anyone had heard him, but there was no one to be found in the

park at this hour, "Phew, damn' it. AHCHOO!, why now do I suddenly have to get a

cold?".

"Maybe it's because you should've stayed inside out of the rain instead of

being up in that tree!", someone said with a smirk from down below.

Shadow looks down to see who was down there, and who else could it be ,

the one blue hedgehog Shadow loathes the most, Sonic! Shadow quickly stands

on the tree branch he sat on, and gives Sonic an unwelcoming look on his face.

"Hmph!", he said to Sonic, "What do you want, Faker!"


"Mmm…. Nothing really…", says Sonic pretending that nothings wrong,

"Just looking for a particular hedgehog that stole a chaos emerald from the city's

national museum. Wouldn't happen to know anything about it would you,

Shadow?", Sonic said to Shadow as he crossed his arms, shows a grin on his face,

and gives him a wink.

"I'm guessing the FBI sent you to capture me, right?", Shadow grins back.

"(whistles) you must be a mind reader to be able to guess that!", said Sonic being

sarcastic.

Shadow jumps out of the tree and lands on the ground with a graceful

landing. Sonic unfolds his arms, wipes the grin off his face, and puts himself in a

defensive position. As soon as Shadow landed he did the same.

"What do you plan to do with the chaos emerald?" Sonic asked Shadow, "I

bet Egghead is up to no good again."

"Hmph, I'm only doing my job nothing more,", replied Shadow, "I don't give a

hell of what Eggman's up to anyway."

"Heh, heh, heh,", Sonic chuckled, "I guess I have no choice but to fight you so

you can talk. This will be interesting."

Shadow takes the first strike at Sonic, but Sonic ducks and tries to fight back.

Both kept on blocking each others strikes. Shadow punches Sonic in the face

making him fall backwards to the ground. Shadow comes in for another attack but

missed as Sonic rolled out of the way. They began racing each other in circles

trying to slow the other one down and hope to get an opening attack. Sonic turns

and kicks Shadow in the face that only gave him a scratch. Then they both came

into each other and went into a fist lock.

"What's the matter Shadow!", yelled Sonic, " Losing  your grip already!"

"Heh! Don't count on it", yelled Shadow. Suddenly his heart began to pound

in his chest, "What the-?", he said to himself, "Why is my heart pounding so

violently!?". Sonic and Shadow pushed away from each other and began to race

each other again.

"What's going on!?", Shadow said to himself, "What in the world is this

feeling!?", the fight continues as Shadow stays in a confused expression. He looks

back at Sonic and looks back at where he was going. Then suddenly he hears a

voice calling out to him.

"Shadow…" Says the strange voice calling Shadow.

Shadow surprised to hear someone calling him didn't know what to say. He

looked back and forth but didn't let his guard down in front of Sonic. One of Sonics'

eyebrows went up and he looked at Shadow very confused.

"What's up Shadow?", asked Sonic, "You look like your lost or something!".

"Oh shut up, Faker!", yelled Shadow trying to not sound so obvious. He looked

around once more to see where the voice was coming from. Suddenly a bright light

appears in front of him. Shadow looked to see if Sonic could see it, but he wasn't

looking at him for the moment. He looked back at the light and then couldn't

believe his eyes when he saw a familiar face appear out of the light. Hair of

sunshine gold, eyes as blue as the sea, and the kindest voice anyone could ever

hear.

"Shadow…", you could probably guess who is calling him…

"Maria…?", Shadow said to himself in shock, "Why now dose my memory of   

her appear!?", as he looked at Maria, she smiled at Shadow and closed her eyes.

Her face disappears into the light, and Shadow almost reached out his hand and

said to himself, "Wait!". But the bright light didn't bring her back.

Then suddenly, without even knowing, Sonic hit Shadow with his elbow

causing him to fall. Shadow then slowly gets up and looks at Sonic with disgust,

but then his expression changed when he saw the bright light next to Sonic. The

light calls the black hedgehogs name once more.

"Shadow…", said Maria with a calm sweet voice, "I will always be with

you… no matter what.", Shadows eyes widen for a moment  and then sees

the light disappearing into Sonics' chest.

"Shadow?", asked Sonic very confused. Shadows eyes start to become calm

but was still confused on what he saw.

"What the-?", Shadow said to himself, "What dose this mean? Why did that

light disappear into Sonic? And what did Maria mean by what she said?". Suddenly

a hand is waved back and forth in front of Shadow's face.

"Yoohoo! Earth to Shadow!", Sonic teased Shadow, "Yo! Where did you go

buddy?", Shadow raises his hand and smacks Sonics hand away from his face. His

eyes turned into an upset expression, and then Shadow pushes Sonic away from

him.

       "STAY AWAY FROM ME!", yelled Shadow, he quickly backs away from him and

takes out the chaos emerald, "CHAOS CONTROL!", He vanished.

       "What's up with him?", Sonic asked very confused, "And why was he

blushing?", Sonic noticed that Shadow was blushing before he ran off.

      Shadow then appears on the outskirts of the city. He appears in a frightened

position, and holds his right hand over is heart as if he were about to tear it out.

    "What the hell-!?", he yelled to himself, "What the hell is wrong with me! Why

am I having these feelings again!? Why is it when I see him, my heart pounds like

a thousand miles!? I had that kind of feeling when Maria was alive but-!", he then

realized what his problem was, "Wait a second…. I LOVE HIM!?!? I must be

crazy! How can I love someone I hate!", he clutches his hand into a fist and

punched a tree nearby, "Damn't! I don't know what to do!", his eyes were closed

shut trying not to believe what his heart had just discovered, "Grr-! I'll just have to

ignore it. My mind is just playing tricks on me I guess….". The sun has begun

to set, leaving a little bit of rays of sun little by little, Shadow looks straight into the

direction of the sun and sighed, "Well, don't wanna keep the doctor waiting, I

better get going." He raises the chaos emerald in his hand and vanished once

more without a trace…..

     With these new feelings for Shadow, how will he be able to control it? Will he

just ignore this feeling and stay in the past to only care for his dear Maria, or will

he accept these feelings for Sonic and hope to see if Sonic has the same feelings
